St. Thérèse Lapbook

Saturday is all Saints day. We are in the middle of our preparations for our annual homeschool All Saints Day celebration. Local home schoolers get together and celebrate the saints. This year we are celebrating on Halloween, since All Saints is on a Saturday. Each child (of school age) dresses up as a saint and makes a presentation about his or her saint. The prescooler can dress up, too. This year Mia chose to be St. Thérèse and to do a lapbook presentation. Here are some pictures of her lapbook.

Evening Sky

I like to take picture of beautiful things. Most times I am taking picture of my loved ones and their accomplishments. The other night though, I just had to take pictures of the sky. I stood in awe at God's amazing creation. Here are some picture of what I saw.

Breast Cancer Awareness

I was looking for an interesting washcloth pattern to make for someone when I stumbled across this pattern. The washcloth is finally finished. I don't know anyone personally who has been affected by breast cancer, but it is one of the leading causes of death amoung women in North America. I thought I would post it here just in case someone reads this blog and knows of someone to make it for. May God Bless all those who are suffering and dying.

C is for...

The little guy needs to learn his colours. We name things by colour for him all the time, but none of the colours seem to sink in. The latest mix up causes quite a outbreak in laughter every time Owen asks:

"Mom, can I have some green milk?"

What he really means is actually strawberry flavoured milk. Once in a while they have the option to have chocolate or strawberry milk as a treat. Well, Owen is quite determined to get his green milk. When we tell him that it isn't green, he throws a little tantrum. So, I came to the conclusion that it was time to actually sit down and teach him the colours. I spent yesterday afternoon colouring, cutting and pasting to make him a cute file folder game that will hopefully teach him his colours. Owen even coloured a few turkeys.

The Turkey poem and turkey template are from It was one of the free printables. The direct link is here.

You may be asking what a file folder game is. Well, it is a game that is constucted on or with a file folder. The file folder games are usually used for educational purposes. If you use your search engine, you will find numerous link with fantastic ideas for file folder games. Many links have templates, so that you can make the games, too. The game I made is one for a preschooler, but there are great ones for learning math facts, sight words and many other things.

Here are some pictures of our version of the Turkey File Folder Game.

C is for...

This week we are working on Letter C from Along the Alphabet Path. One of the book suggestions is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. I did a little research on the web yesterday and found a neat activity that we did today.

A New Lapbook

We studied honey bees in September. The books we used are in the sidebar panal. After learning as much as we could about honey bees, we put together lapbooks. The pictures below are of Noah's Honey Bee Lapbook. Mia's look almost the same. She placed some of the inserts in different spots, so for ease and simplicity I have only posted Noah's photos. These templates are from the websites:

It's been a while...

Yes, it has been a while since I blogged. I have been very busy with the kids. We have been doing some really neat things. One of those things that we have done is make a mini office. A "Mini Office" is a great learning tool. The one I made for Mia is a compilation of the basic knowledge elements for Kindergarten and First Grade. All of the printouts in this mini office are from the website: The front cover was a design by us.

Feast of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus

Prayers to St. Therese of the Child Jesus, the Little Flower ~ Patroness of the Missions & Missionaries

O glorious Saint Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a "Prodigy of Miracles...the Greatest Saint of Modern Times." Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention specifics here) and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good upon the earth...of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfill your plea "to be made known everywhere" and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you.

St. Therese, the Little Flower, please pick me a rose from the heavenly garden and send it to me with a message of love; ask God to grant me the favor I thee implore and tell Him I will love Him each day more and more. Amen.

Dear Little Flower of Lisieux, how wonderful was the short life you led.
Though cloistered, you went far and wide through fervent prayers and great sufferings. You obtained from God untold helps and graces for his evangelists. Help all missionaries in their work and teach all of us to spread Christianity in our own neighborhoods and family circles. Amen.

O Little Flower of Jesus, ever consoling troubled souls with heavenly graces, in your unfailing intercession I place my trust. From the Heart of Our Blessed Savior petition these blessing of which I stand in greatest need (mention here). Shower upon me your promised roses of virtue and grace, dear St. Therese, so that swiftly advancing in sanctity and in perfect love of neighbor, I may someday receive the crown of eternal life. Amen.
